Working in photography and video, installation and performance, Ashley Bell Clark’s interest lies in the physical power we exert over nature, and, reciprocally, the emotional power it exerts over us. Her work reimagines and overlaps these themes of exchange, perpetually compelling her to return to her projects and ideas; considering them neither beginningless nor endless. Her intent is to provide evidence of the ephemeral; vigilant to return and re-capture a moment, place, or feeling. Her focus ranges from that as personal as her family’s land and home, to as distant as messages transmitted from a jungle observatory to the stars. Working primarily with a large format view camera, her subject matter – dutifully analogous to her process – is solitary, explorative, and uncertain. Her examination is that of constant change — with a grain of salt.

Ashley Bell Clark lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her recent exhibitions include Univerzitnej Knižnici, Bratislava, 2014; Karlin Studios, Prague, 2013; Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA, 2010; “Joe Davis: Making Fire”, Evolution Haute Couture: Art and Science in the Post-Biological Age, noncommercial educational screening in collaboration with Joe Davis, XXX Moscow International Film Festival, Moscow, 2008. She received her MFA at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2011.
