Hivewild, in conjunction with AH Arts, is pleased to present a pop-up live performance, Pathx. Starting on the corner of Grattan St. and Bogart Street, two dancers, Zachary Richardson and Koliane Rochon Prom Tep, will migrate down Bogart and arrive in Victori + Mo to complete the work. Pathx, much like the exhibition on view, Topographies: Jemila MacEwan and Karin Waskiewicz, will parallel the visual and abstract characteristics of contoured lines found on a topographical map. Mirroring grooves of the land, the relationship between the dancers will demonstrate how unique bonds transcend layers of superficiality in order to rely on a magnetic, timeless connection.
Hivewild is a contemporary movement initiative created to unlock emotion and ignite conversation through formal performances and public programming dedicated to community development. Founded by Artistic Director Katherine Maxwell, Hivewild's work is rooted in the principles of radical inclusion and lifelong curiosity. Founded in 2016, Hivewild's vision is movement-based artworks acting as conduits to create more united communities. Members of Hivewild aim to be local leaders by engaging in cross-disciplinary collaboration, skill-sharing, and the creation of accessible performance work. Every human has a body, and Hivewild uses this understanding as a starting point to identify connections rather than differences between people.
Katherine Maxwell is a choreographer, moving artist and the founding Artistic Director of Hivewild. Maxwell received her Bachelor of Arts from Kennesaw State University while working with the Atlanta-based social justice initiative, glo. As a professional dancer, Maxwell notably performed in Creative Time’s sprawling public art exhibition Drifting in Daylight: Art in Central Park (2015). Maxwell has presented original works across New York venues which include Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, Peridance Capezio Dance Center, Center for Performance Research, Triskelion Arts, Hunters Field South Park and The Actors Fund Arts Center. Maxwell’s dance film,Through the Eyes of My Meal (2016) premiered online receiving immediate notoriety being featured as a Vimeo Staff Pick, Critics Choice on Nowness.com and has been presented at 12 international festivals. Maxwell has received notoriety through VICE”s The Creators Project and Art Zealous’ 2016 “30 Under 30ish”. Hivewild was established in 2016 as a platform for Maxwell to create formal works, engage with the New York community, and promote partnerships between artists of other mediums. Her practice seeks to continuously blur the edges between performance, installation, and human encounter. Maxwell is actively interested in using movement as a platform for mindfulness and human acceptance.
Zachary Richardson is a Florida-native dance artist, who received his Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Kennesaw State University, Georgia (2014). During his studies, Zachary worked with Lauri Stallings/gloATL, Jennifer Archibald/Arch Dance Company, Rebecca Davis Dance Company and the Atlanta Ballet. Post graduation, Richardson relocated to New York City and has worked for two consecutive seasons as a dancer with Carnival Cruise Lines. Zachary as presented original choreographic works at the American College Dance Festival and Dance Canvas (Atlanta). He is thrilled to be working with Katherine Maxwell as a founding artist for Hivewild (NYC).
Koliane Rochon Prom Tep is originally from Montreal, and began studying dance after five years of gymnastics training. Her education began at the The Ballet Divertimento School in Montreal and was then continued by her completion of the Certificate Program at Peridance Capezio Center (New York). Koliane has worked with Milton Myers, Richard Chen See, Tymberly Canale, Marlena Wolfe, Jesse Zaritt, Manuel Vignoulle, and Graciela Kozak. Performed works include choreography by Enzo Celli, Bryan Arias, Igal Perry and Robert Battle. Koliane is based in Montreal and is a founding artist for Hivewild (NYC).
